There are few items we own that are more fashionable and eye catching than our pipes.
People pick their style, finishes, and tints based on comfort, personal preference, and what they think is en vogue of course.
But, how often do we take our wardrobe into consideration when choosing a new pipe?
We lucky few pipe smoking icons must live up to our duty of presenting the best face of a pipe smoker to the world, and a pipe smoker’s need for a variety of pipes, (as well as our compulsion to buy pipes) gives the smoker a wonderful opportunity to accessorize!
Now, I’m not talking about wearing head to toe briar brown.
Like any well put together ensemble it needs to be only peppered with accent colors to make the outfit truly pop.
The standard rule is;
*pipe
*belt
*shoes
A nice nude or unfinished matte goes just fine with a light brown leather
Leathers are always easy to match to pipe finishes, since they often rely on similar stains in their production.
You can also incorporate textures into the pairing like a rusticated pipe, with a braided belt to mimic the finish.
And for unfinished rusticated pipes you can go with a suede, or canvas!
These days pipes can come in all kinds of colors, and finishes, blue, red, yellow, tie dye (*shudders*), with your more pronounced colors, it’s better to tie in your necktie, or lapel pin, as opposed to your shoes and belt. A red belt and shoes are best left for caped super heroes and cartoon characters.
It’s also important to choose your jewelry to match your pipe. If your pipe has gold bushings or accents, certainly dont wear a silver tie clip.
And you can even match your pipes finish with your gauges (provided you have them) for a smart look.
The important thing is, not just to consider which pipe to buy, but, which pipe to take with you today?
Make a conscious effort to think about which pipe you’ll want to smoke that day while picking out your outfit or, which pipe will best compliment what you’re planning on wearing.
Do this, and you’re guaranteed to turn heads for more than your intoxicating aroma.
