Why do we use local honey in our tobaccos?

When preparing an aromatic pipe tobacco, honey, or usually cheaper sugar is added to the topping to act as a bonding agent for the essence and flavor being applied.

The honey is boiled with water and flavoring then applied to the tobacco and aged. The bonding adds some sweetness, but is mostly a utilitarian ingredient used for its stickiness as opposed to its flavor.

So why do we at Parlor Tobacco Co. Insist on using locally sourced Carolina honey for our pipe tobaccos? While this tiny detail, may not make a huge difference for your palate, it does make a difference to the small family apiarists who produce it!

Supporting local family farmers and businesses is essential to the Parlor Tobacco Co. philosophy! We aim to capture the sun, breeze, and waters of the Carolinas in every one of our products, and that means supporting and preserving our Carolina family farms and specialty artisans.

Every item in the Parlor Tobacco Co.’s catalog is fed by our Carolina rains, sunned by our hot summer days, and cooled at night by our Carolina breeze.

We intend to keep our products this way, and keep the Carolinas the way it is too by helping these small craft artisans, farmers, apiarists, and families sustain their way of living.

Whether it’s one of our pipe tobacco blends, our pomades, or balms (made with locally sourced bees wax), or any of our other products, you will get the tastes, smells, and sensations that are unique to the Carolinas!
